Know the services we provide

The Regina Fire Department has been an integral part of Regina and area since 1882. In the early days all that was expected of the fire brigade was to fight fires. Today, we have expanded our response to include:

  • Emergency Dispatch Centre
    The Dispatch Centre is the communications core for all fire incidents. It is responsible for receiving and dispatch of emergency information, communication link to emergency scenes and maintenance of fire communications equipment. 4 full-time dispatchers are supported by a pool of 16 Firefighter Dispatchers who are required to maintain dispatch skills.

  • Public Education
    The Regina Fire Department delivers a Fire Safety Education Program to help residents understand that they have the ability to prevent fires.

  • Automated External Defibrillators (AED)
    The Regina Fire Department, in cooperation with the Regina Qu'Appelle Health Region , maintains Automated External Defibrillators (AED) on all of the Fire Department’s 13 front line fire trucks. By doing so, it can significantly increase the likelihood of a defibrillator arriving at a cardiac arrest patient within 3-5 minutes.

  • Emergency Medical
    Responds to emergencies involving life-threatening injuries and victims who are not breathing and unconscious. Firefighters are trained as Level 1 First Responders.

  • Hazardous Materials Response Team
    This team responds to hazardous material emergencies.

  • Jaws of Life
    The Jaws of Life program involves the rescue of accident victims primarily from their vehicles.

  • Water & Ice Rescue
    This rescue team is trained in surface water and ice rescue.

  • Technical Rescue Team
    This team is trained in general rescue techniques and rope rescue.

The Regina Fire Department's diversification of services is maintained by a fleet of 18 front line apparatus that includes pumper, rescue and ladder trucks. Firefighters, who are primarily assigned to apparatus for fire suppression services, also staff the rescue units as required.
