Build on Your Property

  • new building or structures on your property like a house, garage, swimming pool or mobile home
  • recreation rooms, secondary suites or fireplaces in your home
  • parking lots
  • repairs that change or affect the structural nature of a building/structure
  • the demolition, repair, alteration or addition to an existing building or structure
  • the move of an existing building or structure (read about overdimensional moves under Roads & Traffic)

Building permits are NOT required for:

  • fences
  • sidewalks
  • driveways
  • cabinetwork
  • painting or decorating
  • play structures
  • repairs using similar or same materials that do not affect any mechanical work
  • accessory buildings that are less than 10 square metres in area, provided the building does not create a hazard. However, this accessory building must conform to zoning regulations.
