The City of Regina publishes Your Guide To Composting , a free booklet that tells you how to build an outdoor compost or indoor vermicomposter, as well as what material you can compost and a list of trouble-shooting tips.

Outdoor compost bins

A well-designed outdoor compost bin has the following features:

  • recommended size: 1 metre high, by 1 metre wide, and 1 metre deep
  • easy access to turn/remove the pile of organic matter inside the bin
  • spaces or holes along the bin’s sides for air to circulate inside the bin
  • lids, although not a requirement, help the compost retain moisture
  • some bins have 2 compartments; one side is for finished compost while the other side is where you add fresh organic material

You can either make your own by downloading the City’s compost bin instructions or you can purchase a Regina Area Girl Guides  Compost Bins. These bins are made of cedar, and are available assembled or unassembled.
