Glass Recyling at the Landfill

As of November 2007, the Fleet Street Landfill is the only City-run location to drop off glass jars for recycling. Refundable glass bottles should be taken to SARCAN .

To recycle your glass

The private-vehicle entry fee will be waived if you bring only accepted glass material for recycling; the fee will not be waived if you bring glass as well as other materials for disposal at the landfill.

If you wish to recycle your glass:

  • rinse the glass container to remove dirt and food
  • remove lids and caps from the glass
  • place the glass directly into the glass recycling bin; DO NOT bag or box your glass
  • place all paper and cardboard in the adjacent Big Blue Bin
  • any remaining garbage that you are unable to reuse or recycle and wish to dispose of at the landfill may be placed in the nearby refuse bin

Items not accepted for recycling

DO NOT sabotage recycling efforts by placing the following items into the glass recycling bin:

  • plastic bags
  • milk jugs
  • clothing
  • mirrors
  • windows, etc.

These items contaminate the recycling process, increase handling, transportation and processing costs, and ultimately, render recyclables useless.

If you are interested in recycling glass items not accepted at the landfill, contact the Saskatchewan Waste Reduction Council  at 306-931-3242.
