Keeping Our Community Safe Program

The objective of the Keeping Our Community Safe (KOCS) program is to diminish the problem of deliberately set fires occurring in the North Central, Core and Al Ritchie neighbourhoods. By involving various community organizations and individuals, this program addresses the problem collectively in a coordinated way.

Since the program was developed the number of garbage fires has decreased significantly. The group has established a visual identity logo, developed programs for preschool and elementary school students, successfully encouraged a change in Fire & Protective Services' and Police Service’s response policies, and encouraged the rescheduling of garbage pickup.

In 2006, the Keeping Our Community Safe Coalition was presented with the Regina Crime Prevention Commission Award in the Community Based Organization Category.

Members of the program include Regina Public Schools, Regina Catholic Schools, Regina Police Service, Regina Engineering & Works, Child & Youth Services, and the Department of Community Resources.
