Tips for Back Alley Garbage Collection
Many older neighbourhoods use large steel garbage containers in their alleys for garbage collection. These garbage containers will be removed and replaced with individual household rollout carts.
All back alley containers are scheduled for pick up once per week. If the container nearest your home is full, put your garbage in another container on your block or store your garbage until the container has been emptied. Other tips to follow to use back alley containers:
- All garbage must be put in the container. Do not put garbage on the ground against or near the container; the garbage truck will NOT pick up any items on the ground.
- Garbage should be put in sturdy, sealed plastic bags.
- Do not put loose grass or leaves in the container; all yard waste must be bagged. (You may consider composting this waste to reduce the amount of garbage going to our landfill.)
- Keep the container lid closed.
- Tree and shrub branches must be cut into 0.9 m lengths or shorter.
