Stray cats are captured by Animal Protection Officers and taken to the Regina Humane Society. Residents can also use a cat trap from the Humane Society to capture stray cats.
If your cat is licensed and can be identified (tag/tattoo), the Humane Society will contact you within 24 hours to tell you that they have picked up your pet. If you have lost your unlicensed cat, you can call the Humane Society and provide them with a description of your pet in case it is picked up.
To retrieve your cat, you must pay the following:
- $35 impoundment fee (+ $15/day after 3 days)
- between $100 and $300 fine for running at large
- between $150 and $350 fine if unlicensed
- If your cat does not have a licence, you will also have to pay for it to be licensed (Licence fees are $20 if sterilized or $100 if not sterilized)
Cats not claimed within 3 days may be put up for adoption or humanely euthanized.
