Winter Maintenance Policy Review

In 2006, the City reviewed its winter maintenance policy concerning snow removal and ice control for Regina’s streets and roads, as well as its policy concerning sidewalk snow removal.

After much public consultation, a report was presented to Regina City Council. From this report, Council approved the following changes:

  • increased plowing and snow removal around schools
  • enhanced plowing and snow removal at intersections of Category 1 & 2 streets to improve sight lines for motorists and pedestrians)
  • improved plowing and snow removal at transit stops
  • improved snow clearing and removal at City-owned facilities
  • increased enforcement of Clean Property Bylaw No. 9881  requiring certain properties, such as downtown businesses, remove snow and ice within a specified period after a storm
  • increased communications concerning the importance of removing snow and ice from public and private walks/entry stairs to provide a safe and welcoming path to your home or business
