Crime Prevention Week
In late May each year, the Regina Crime Prevention Commission hosts Crime Prevention Week. It reminds us that crime prevention begins in the neighbourhood where we live and it is up to us to ensure our community is a safe place to live, work and play.
Many events are scheduled during Crime Prevention Week:Monday, May 16 – 10 a.m. Mayor Fiacco will kick-off Crime Prevention Week at an event showcasing the City of Regina and Regina Police Service Graffiti Management Program and the new Regina Downtown Pilot Project.
Tuesday, May 17 – 1 p.m. The Al Ritchie Community Association in partnership with Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism invites you to a Seniors Safety and Fraud Prevention Seminar. Wednesday, May 18 The Heritage Community Association will be sharing the preliminary results of their community wide youth needs assessment to prevent and reduce crime in Heritage. This event is by invitation only.
Thursday, May 19 – 4 p.m. The City of Regina and Regina Police Service invite the public to participate in a “What Crime Is It Anyway” game show and presentation. The presentation is geared to addressing the financial and human costs of graffiti vandalism. Youth attending the after school program will be encouraged to recognize the difference between art and graffiti and to understand the short and long term effects of graffiti. Thursday, May 19 – 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Come and Go Regina Regional Intersectoral Committee is organizing a “Raising Your Family, Where Do You Go for Answers?” Awareness Day. Service providers will share information on childhood development milestones. Learn how to access services for your family. Ideas and tools will be shared with families to ensure children receive positive, nurturing and supportive experience when accessing services. Lunch will be provided. Saturday May 21, 2011 – begins at 10 a.m. The public is invited to the North Central Family Centre (NCFC) “Community/Family Running Against Crime” 5 K Walk/Run/Bike/Rollerblade/ Skateboard event. The event is offered by the NCFC in partnership with the Crime Prevention Advisory Committee Starts at NCFC - 2931 5th Avenue Registration is free and registered participants are invited to a BBQ lunch.
