Crews in Storm Mode - Residential Roads Snow Plow Postponed Further
As the snow continues to sporadically fall, crews are back in storm mode. This means our primary focus is to provide ice control on busy roads and intersections, as well as monitor road sections prone to blowing snow.
As a result of high winds, this weekend crews will address areas where snow has blown in, as well as perimeter areas of the city, including some residential streets adjacent to open areas.
In the event snowfall exceeds five centimetres of snow or more, a systematic plow will begin on expressways, arterials, hospital routes, and high-traffic residential roads, as well removing snow ridges from school loading zones. The systematic plow involves 573 kilometres of roads cleared within 60 hours of the snowfall ending. In addition, City crews will clear sidewalks adjacent to City facilities, parks and transit stops.
Snow Routes have been declared and there is no parking on the snow routes between 6 a.m. Saturday, January 8 to 6 a.m. Sunday, January 9.
With crews responding to this new snowfall, the Residential Roads Snow Plow will be delayed further. The City will advise residents when it is set to begin, anticipated mid to late next week.
Residents are encouraged to take extra caution when driving. Keep yourself, passengers and operators safe by staying back at least 3.5 car lengths – or 15 metres – from the equipment.
