Extreme Cold Warning issued for Regina and area
Environment Canada has issued an Extreme Cold Warning that covers the Regina area.
According to Environment Canada, the weather is expected to go below -40 C tonight, when wind chill is factored in. Environment Canada also predicts poor driving conditions throughout southern Saskatchewan throughout Wednesday.
There is a heightened risk of hypothermia and frostbite due to extreme cold temperatures. Hypothermia is a serious, potentially life-threatening condition in which a person’s body temperature drops below 37 C. Frostbite happens when the skin and the tissue beneath it freeze.
Infants, seniors, people taking some medications and those with certain medical conditions – such as diabetes and diseases affecting the blood vessels – are at greater risk in the cold.
