The taxicab industry in Regina requires drivers, vehicles and brokers to be licensed. How to apply for or renew each licence is listed below.

Taxicab Driver's Licence

Drivers must carry their valid taxi licence when working and ensure their taxi identification card is visible by passengers.

To apply for a Taxicab Driver's Licence at City Hall, you must:

  • have a current Saskatchewan driver's licence (Class 4)
  • complete an application form (available at Main Floor Bylaw & Licensing, City Hall)
  • consent to a criminal record check by Regina Police Service (cannot have any outstanding charges or warrants)
  • pay application fee once Police approval is received

You must renew your Taxicab Driver's by May 1st at City Hall. To renew you must:

  • have a current Saskatchewan driver's licence (Class 4)
  • complete the application form (available at Main Floor Bylaw & Licensing, City Hall)
  • consent to a criminal record check by the Regina Police Service
  • pay renewal application fee once Police approval is received   

Taxicab Vehicle Licence

There are 4 types of taxicab vehicle licences: regular taxicab, temporary taxicab, seasonal taxicab and accessible taxicab licence.
To renew a taxicab vehicle licence, you must:

  • complete an application form (available at Main Floor Bylaw & Licensing, City Hall)
  • produce a valid SGI inspection certificate and decal
  • submit the vehicle for inspection by the Licence Inspector
  • pay application fee
  • be affiliated with a licensed taxicab broker
  • and comply with all other sections of The Taxi Bylaw, 1994

If you are renewing a seasonal taxicab licence, you will need to provide a letter from your taxi broker along with the above information.
To obtain an accessible taxicab owner's licence, you will need to provide that the vehicle is CSA-D409 approved along with the above information.

Taxicab Broker's Licence

To obtain a taxicab broker's licence, you must submit your application to the Bylaw & Licensing area. Call 306-777-7717 for information about the application procedure. If your application is successful, you must pay the application fee before the licence is issued.

If the dispatch office is home-based, you will also need a business licence.
