Snow plowing on Regina streets

During a heavy snowfall or blizzard, the City of Regina’s first objective is to ensure emergency vehicles can reach a home or business if required.

Once the snowstorm subsides, snowplow crews shift their focus to systematically plow streets and control ice to help re-establish traffic flow. Streets are grouped into the following categories and are plowed in the order below (which is also shown on the Road Categories for Systematic Plowing & Ice ControlMap.

  1. Category 1 roads These roads are plowed within 24 hours after a snow event ends. (Example: Albert Street, Broad Street, Victoria Avenue)
  2. Category 2 roads These roads are plowed within 36 hours after a snow event ends, (Example: Elphinstone Street, Broadway Avenue, Regina Avenue)
  3. Category 3 roads These roads are plowed within 48 hours after a snow event ends, (Example: Regina Transit routes)
  4. Category 4 roads These roads are plowed within 60 hours after a snow event ends.
  1. Category 5 roads These roads are plowed when time permits down to a maximum snow pack layer of 10 cm. (Example: Residential local streets)
