Current & Future Road Construction Projects

New road and intersection construction planned for this year and the next 5 are for locations approved as part of the Regina Road Network Plan and are listed in the City of Regina’s approved capital budget.

The majority of roads or intersection planned for this year are adjacent to new development areas and are partially funded by development charges.

The list of projects planned in the 2007-2011 General Capital Program include:

  • 2007: Diefenbaker Drive (McCarthy Boulevard to Pasqua Street) Completion of project begun in 2006.
  • 2007: Intersection at Victoria Avenue East and Windsor Park Road Completion of project begun in 2006.
  • 2007: Courtney Street construction (Dalgliesh Drive to Mapleford Gate - Eastside) Design and construction of the east side of Courtenay street between Dalgliesh Drive and Mapleford Gate.
  • 2007: Intersection at Pasqua Street/Junor Drive Construction of intersection at Pasqua Street and Junor Drive to provide access to residential development west of Pasqua Street.
  • 2008: Intersection at Pasqua Street and Big Bear Boulevard This intersection at Pasqua Street and Big Bear Boulevard will provide access to commercial development east of Pasqua Street.
  • 2007/2008: Intersection at Quance Street and University Park Drive Quance Street will be widened to provide left turn bays to improve safety and traffic capacity.
  • 2008: Study for Pasqua Street corridor improvements A functional planning study for improvements to Pasqua Street from Sherwood Drive to Rochdale Boulevard, including the intersection of Pasqua Street and Ring Road.
  • 2007-2009: Victoria Avenue widening In 2007, the plan to widen Victoria Avenue from Fleet Street to the City Limits will be confirmed, with reconstruction to begin in 2009.
  • 2007-2009: Courtney Street (Sherwood Drive to 1st Avenue North) In 2007, the detail design to construct the east side of Courtenay Street from Sherwood Drive to 1st Avenue North will be confirmed, with construction to begin in 2009.
  • 2008: Functional plan and preliminary design for Arcola Avenue improvements This functional plan review and preliminary design will propose the widening and realignment of Arcola Avenue between Winnipeg Street and Victoria Avenue to handle increased traffic on Victoria Avenue East and in Regina’s southwest.
  • 2009-2010: Parliament Avenue and Queen Street extension In 2008 the detailed design to extend Parliament Avenue from Argyle Street to Lewvan Drive and Queen Street from Laubach Avenue to parliament Avenue (with a connection to 28th Avenue) will be completed, with construction to begin in 2010.
  • 2009-2010: Parliament Avenue extension west of Lewvan Drive The detailed design to extend Parliament Avenue west of Lewvan Drive will take place in 2008, with construction to begin in 2009.
  • 2009-2010: Intersection improvement at Parliament Avenue and Lewvan Drive The detail design to improve the intersection at Parliament Avenue and Lewvan Drive will take place in 2008, with construction to begin in 2009.
  • 2009-2010: Rochdale Boulevard intersection The detailed design for an intersection along Rochdale Boulevard at the Walmart/Sobey’s entrance will be completed in 2008, with construction to begin in 2009.
  • 2010: Rochdale Boulevard extension The detailed design to construct Rochdale Boulevard from 250 m east of Pasqua Street to Argyle Street North will take place in 2008, with construction to begin in 2010
  • 2008-2010: Design for Prince of Wales Drive extension The functional design to extend Prince of Wales Drive south to Wascana Parkway will be completed in 2008 and the detailed design for this project will be completed in 2010.
  • 2008-2011: Extension of Diefenbaker (EW Arterial) The detailed design to extend Diefenbaker from McCarthy Boulevard to the CNR will be completed in 2008 and construction to begin in 2011.
  • 2008: Widening of Ross Avenue The detailed design and construction of the north lanes of Ross Avenue from Sioux Street to Fleet Street will be completed in 2008.
  • 2009-2010: Extension of Fleet Street The detailed design to extend Fleet Street from Cavendish Street to Ross Avenue (4 lane) with a grade crossing at the CPR Mainline will be completed in 2009, with construction to begin in 2010.
  • 2009-2010: Extension of Argyle Street North The detailed design to extend Argyle Street North from Sangster Boulevard to Rochdale Boulevard (4 lane) will be completed in 2009, with construction to begin in 2010.
  • 2010: Design for intersection improvements at Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street A functional design review of the intersection at Saskatchewan Drive and Albert Street to improve sightlines will be completed in 2010.
  • 2010-2011: Widening of Prince of Wales Drive (eastside) The detailed design to widen Prince of Wales Drive to a 4-lane, divided cross-section from Eastgate Drive to Dewdney Avenue will be completed in 2010, with construction to begin in 2011.
  • 2008: Intersection improvements at Gordon Road and Lewvan Drive In 2008, detailed design and construction will begin to improve the intersection at Lewvan Drive and Gordon Road,
  • 2008: Extension of Gordon Road In 2008, detail design and construction will begin to extend Gordon Drive west from Lewvan Drive to a N/S collector approximately 690 m west of Lewvan Drive,
  • 2011: Design for Pasqua Street/Ring Road interchange In 2011, the preliminary design for an interchange at Pasqua Street and Ring Road will be completed.
  • 2011: Development of northwest arterials An allowance to widen McDonald Street from Kress Street to Fleet Street will be available, depending on industrial development and traffic increases in the area.
  • Future: Interchange at Highway No. 1 and Lewvan Drive The City of Regina is partnering with Saskatchewan Highways and Transportation in the design of an interchange at this intersection and will contribute $2 million to the project.
