Preferred growing conditions Schubert chokecherry trees are tolerant to drought and shade, however the tree needs full sun to produce a good crop of chokecherries.
Form The tree is usually seen as a large shrub or small suckering hardy tree.
Flower/seeds Ccreamy-white flowers branching off of a stem 2-3 centimetres long.
Leaf Simple elliptical leaves 2 centimetres long that are dark green above and light green below.
Bark/wood Bark is usually grey-brown.
Fruit Dark red or purple black fleshy fruit with a center stone is often used to make jellies and jams.
Pruning Prune to keep shape and remove damaged limbs. Sterilize pruning saws and shears with methanol (gasline anti-freeze) between cuts and between trees.
