Hawthorn (Snowbird)
Characteristics
Height and Spread Snowbird Hawthorn trees can grow up to 4 metres in height and may have a crown width of up to 3 metres.

Preferred growing conditions Prefers full sun and is drought tolerant.
Form Snowbird hawthorn is good for small yards. It has a low headed, upright oval shape when mature.
Flower/seeds Tiny (1 cm) fragrant white or pinkish flowers that grow in pairs. Seed is found in fruit.
Leaf Dark green, toothed leaf that may have a few thorns.
Bark/wood Gray to brown bark.
Fruit Sparse, marble-sized fruit that has a glossy red skin when mature. High seed to flesh ratio; can be used to make jelly.
Pruning Prune to keep shape and remove damaged limbs. Sterilize pruning saws and shears with methanol (gasline anti-freeze) between cuts and between trees.
Problems (Disease/Insects)
Fireblight. Resistant to cedar/apple rust.
