Scotch Pine
Characteristics
Height and Spread Scotch pine can grow 6 to 15 metres in height and may have a crown width of 6 to 10 metres.

Preferred growing conditions Prefers well-drained soils in full sun; intolerant of flooding.
Form A tall, pyramid-shaped coniferous tree that rounds out as it matures
Flower/seeds Purple or reddish-tan flowers that turn into brown cones with diamond-shaped scales. Each scale contains 2 seeds.
Leaf Long, narrow needles found in pairs which are medium green in colour.
Bark/wood Bark is orange-brown and looks like it is peeling.
Fruit Not applicable
Pruning Prune to keep shape and remove damaged limbs. Sterilize pruning saws and shears with methanol (gasoline anti-freeze) between cuts and between trees.
Problems (Disease/Insects)
Needle cast, gall rust, sawfly, pine needle scale, and aphids. Porcupines love to eat the bark.
