Lead Service Connections Study: Tests Results Are Complete
The City of Regina began testing water to measure lead concentration in households with lead service connections in August 2009 to support proposed guidelines by Health Canada. The City tests water on an ongoing basis at all stages including the water source, Buffalo Pound Treatment Plant and 15 locations throughout the City's distribution system to ensure that the water is safe and of high quality. The overall results indicate lead levels are below Health Canada's recommended guidelines. The City tested within the 90th percentile for acceptable lead levels under Health Canada’s guidelines. The remaining samples revealed the amount of lead significantly dropped after running water for 5 minutes before testing. More information about the study results can be found in the April 20, 2010, Public Works Committee Report.
