Environment
Climate change is one of the greatest environmental challenges facing us today. Human activity is creating greenhouse gases largely through the burning of fossil fuels (e.g. gasoline, coal and natural gas) which are accumulating in the atmosphere at an unprecedented rate. As a result, significant climatic and thus ecological changes may be looming; many believe that these changes have already started. There is no doubt that these changes will also affect the quality of life for people locally and around the globe.
You can be part of the solution to reduce the impact by climate change by changing some of your everyday activities around the home or at school:
- turn off lights or your computer when you leave the room
- ask your parents to use compact florescent bulbs instead of incandescent bulbs
- borrow books and magazines from the library instead of purchasing them
- take the bus, walk, bike or carpool to get to school, visit friends or go shopping
The City of Regina is doing its part. Since 1990 the City has been involved in initiatives to reduce our local impact on the climate. In fact, Regina was the third municipality in Canada to set a greenhouse gas emission reduction target!
