Ladies, start your oxen!

Regina is known as Canada’s Volunteer Capital. Here you can see an early example of that volunteer spirit, at the Red Cross oxen and cart races at a local picnic, ca. 1900. Regina residents are always willing to pitch in for a good cause! This photograph is in relatively good shape despite having been mounted on cardboard. However, it is impossible to ever remove this photograph from its mounting without causing it irreparable damage. At some point someone tried to remove this particular photograph from the mount, and a tiny tear has occurred in the print.
