The City is now undertaking a review of the building permits and inspections service. We are committed to making changes to improve satisfaction with our service delivery and achieve our objectives for public safety, public confidence and economic competitiveness.
The City will work with stakeholders and residents throughout this process to ensure that both concerns and ideas are reflected in the development of new solutions. We will be inviting participation from industry stakeholders, internal staff members, and others affected by the building permits and inspections program as a part of this engagement. The City has retained the services of an external consultant to facilitate stakeholder involvement in this review and provide an objective lens during the engagement.
Project Timeline: September 2019 to January 2020
This review happened in two phases.
Phase One – Current State (September to October)
We worked with stakeholders to identify issues and understand the impact of the current service delivery.
Phase Two – Future State (November to December)
We identified a desired future state, developed solutions and a plan to implement them.
Engagement opportunities ranged from in-person working sessions to online feedback opportunities.
A report was presented to the Planning and Priorities Committee and accepted by City Council in January, 2020. Work to implement recommendations in the report is currently underway.
