Broad Street from Saskatchewan Drive to Victoria Avenue
Starting April 12, traffic will be restricted on Broad Street from Saskatchewan Drive to Victoria Avenue while crews renew a major water main, which provides water services to the downtown area, using the method of relining.
Crews will use a technique which installs a new liner inside the current water main, restoring the pipe to be used for another 50 years. This technique is cost-effective and less invasive, as it does not require digging up the ground, replacing the pipe and rebuilding the road.
Lanes will be restricted, and delays should be expected, but two-way traffic northbound and southbound will always be available. Work will occur on different blocks of Broad Street at different times, as follows:
- April 12 to 15: 1700 block of Broad Street
- April 17 to 18: 1800 block of Broad Street
- April 19 to 20: 1900 block of Broad Street
- April 21 to end of project: 1700, 1800 and 1900 block of Broad Street
The project is anticipated to be complete in nine weeks, pending weather or unforeseen circumstances.
The City of Regina is investing more than $26 million to renew the aging cast iron trunk mains over the next seven years, including $2 million to reline this section.
Affected property owners have been informed of the project and any potential impacts on normal water supply during construction in order to maintain normal business operations.
We thank residents for their understanding and patience. Slow down, plan ahead and be safe. Workers and their families are relying on you.
