City Encourages Participation in 2021 Census
The City of Regina encourages residents to participate in the 2021 Census of Population. Check your mailbox for your census letter and be sure to complete it online using the secure access code provided before the deadline. Completion of the census questionnaire is required by law.
“The census serves a very important role in determining the amount of funding the City of Regina and other Canadian municipalities receive through federal and provincial government grant programs,” says Mayor Sandra Masters. “Many programs and services that benefit our community are funded through annual government transfers based on population. I encourage all residents to participate and ensure that this data is up to date and accurately reflects the demographics of our city.”
Approximately 10 per cent of the City of Regina’s annual budget revenue comes from government grant transfers determined by Canadian Census data. In 2021, this amounts to about $49 million.
Funding for schools, hospitals and health services, highways, daycares and retirement homes are all influenced by census data as well. As Regina’s population continues to increase, census data ensures government grant revenue streams keep step with our growing city population.
The Census of Population is overseen by Statistics Canada and is open to all Canadian citizens, landed immigrants and non-permanent residents and their families. It is held every five years.
