Council Invests in Winter City Strategy
Today, City Council approved a Winter City Strategy which aims to celebrate and embrace all aspects of winter living in Regina.
“Investing in Regina’s full potential as a winter city has tremendous value,” said Councillor Lori Bresciani. “This strategy will help leverage winter as an asset to strengthen our economy and improve our quality of life. I am a champion for Regina winters, and I can’t wait for new opportunities to gather and celebrate winter in Regina into the future.”
Winter Cities is a concept that encourages communities in northern latitudes to consider winter as part of all city planning. From transportation systems, to buildings and recreation projects, the idea of creating a vibrant and active city in all four seasons means embracing the winter months.
In 2019, City Council requested a report outlining the viability of developing Regina into a vibrant Winter City. Based on Council’s direction, Administration worked with community partners to create a Winter City Strategy and supporting action plan.
The strategy and plan provide a foundation for the City, local businesses, community groups and residents to collaborate. Together we can create a city that is inviting, vibrant and prosperous even in the coldest months of the year.
