Glockenspiel installation to begin next week
Work to return the Glockenspiel to the northeast corner of City Square Plaza will begin next week and is expected to be completed in June.
The restoration includes rebuilding the pedestal and installing a master control system that programs the Glockenspiel using modern technology. The base and controller are designed to withstand fluctuating prairie temperatures and ensure a lasting presence as a landmark at the heart of the city.
Due to the highly specialized nature of this equipment, the City separated the procurement process for the master control system and the general construction phase. The Request for Proposal for general construction was awarded to Independent Construction Management (ICM) and the controller and bell restoration was awarded to Verdin Company.
The Glockenspiel commemorates the contributions of Regina’s German and multicultural communities to the city’s growth and development. It is a symbol of our community’s diversity and sharing of ethnic traditions. Its return to City Square Plaza enhances this community space and reflects the City’s commitment to honouring its immigrant history and conserving cultural heritage assets.
