Independent review of building permit processes announced
The City of Regina will undertake an independent review of its building permit processes. An outside consultant will inspect and analyze the application and approval process.
“One of the concerns I hear most often from the public is how long they must wait before building permits are approved,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “This affects a lot of people, whether they are major developers or individuals trying to build their first home. At a time when our building sector has slowed down, it is incumbent on the City to move these approvals through as quickly and thoroughly as possible.”
An important step of this review will include consulting with residents and the building and development industry to ensure that their concerns and experiences are reflected in this analysis.
This review is expected to result in a set of recommendations to help simplify, streamline, and shorten the wait times for building permit assessments and approvals. It will also consider site inspections and other permit-related processes.
