Minor Remediation Work Continues at The Yards
Minor work continues at the former CP railyard along Dewdney Avenue as the site, known as The Yards, is further prepared for future redevelopment.
The next phase of work includes geophysical surveying, drilling and taking soil samples at three priority remediation areas where contaminated soil will be excavated and hauled to a secure storage and disposal facility. Excavation of these areas is scheduled to occur in late September or early October and will take one to two weeks to complete.
This remediation is standard environmental work required to ensure all health and ecological risks related to The Yards’ previous use have been identified and corrected so the area can be redeveloped.
In July, approximately 1500 tonnes of pavement from The Yards site was milled and recycled into roadways at the Landfill. Eventually, all existing pavement will be removed and repurposed with this approach.
