North Central Drainage Upgrades Third and Final Year of Construction Work Begins
The third and final year of a $15 million drainage improvement project begins this week in the North Central community.
“The North Central Drainage Upgrade project replaces aging infrastructure to reduce the risk of basement and street flooding to over 450 homes within the neighbourhood,” said Kim Onrait, Executive Director of Citizen Services. “Over the course of this major project, 24 blocks have been impacted. We thank residents for their cooperation and understanding as crews complete this important work.”
The project includes removal of asphalt and sidewalks, digging a trench in the road to remove the existing storm sewer mains, installing new pipes and water service connections, repaving the road and repairing curbs, gutters and impacted portions of private yards.
In 2022, work will occur in two phases. As shown on the Construction Map below, Phase One is in the western portion of the project area, between Argyle Street and Wascana Street. Phase Two is in the southeastern portion of the project area, between 2nd Avenue and 5th Avenue. The City will advise residents of each phase, along with necessary closures and restrictions.
The health and safety of our employees, crews and community are top priority for the City of Regina. This work is weather dependent and expected to be complete by the end of this construction season.
