Regina’s First Rapid Housing Initiative - Project Update
Regina’s Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) project will address the need for longer-term supportive housing for residents who are exiting homelessness and taking steps toward healing and community integration.
When complete, the 29-unit RHI project at 120 Broad Street North will be operated by Regina Treaty/Status Indian Services (RTSIS) and Silver Sage Housing Corporation. The City of Regina’s $1 million annual Permanent Supportive Housing operating grant will fund 24/7 support services for residents. The project is made possible by $7.75 million in capital funding from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), as well as a contribution from the provincial government.
As of May, the transfer of land and capital funds to Silver Sage has been completed. Silver Sage has now taken the lead on the project. Preliminary design work is underway as scheduled; however, the completion date has been extended to mid-2023. The extension, due to manufacturing and supply chain issues, has been approved by CMHC and will not affect the federal funding. The City continues to work collaboratively with Silver Sage to find opportunities to advance the timeline of the development wherever possible.
The RHI project reflects the City’s commitment to advance affordable and supportive housing, as we work to create a healthier and more sustainable community. Updates on the Silver Sage RHI project will be shared online at Regina.ca/rapidhousing
