Rochdale Retention Pond to be Lowered for Inspection
The City of Regina will start to drain the Rochdale retention pond, located beside the Northwest Leisure Centre, so crews can assess the cause of the sinkhole that occurred on the south end of the park. The inspection can’t be done without lowering the pond levels.
The water from the pond will be released at a slow and controlled rate into the North Storm Channel. Draining the pond will take approximately two days. Once inspection is complete, the City can determine the type of repair and the length of time required to fully complete the work.
After completion of all work, the Rochdale retention pond will naturally refill.
Retention ponds are a part of the drainage system and used to collect and store rainfall and runoff from streets and adjacent land which minimizes the risk of flooding or damage to properties in the area.
For everyone’s safety, public is asked to stay out of the work area.
