City crews responding to icy conditions

Wed Jan 10 10:41:33 CST 2018

As a result of freezing rain on Tuesday afternoon, City crews have been responding to icy conditions continuously overnight and will remain throughout today. The City’s primary focus has been to provide ice control on arterial and collector roads and sidewalks that are the responsibility of the city.

As the entire City has received freezing rain, we are systematically working through the road network to address the current winter conditions. We are strongly encouraging residents to take extra caution when driving.

Sander trucks will continuously monitor Category 1, 2, 3 and 4 roads, and apply sand and salt to the road network as needed. Crews are also applying sand and salt to sidewalks that we are responsible for throughout the city.

Once Category 1-4 roads (arterial and collector) are complete and in good winter driving conditions, we will focus on Category 5 roads (residential) in a systematic fashion.

It’s important to keep your sidewalks safe. The City offers free sand for public use to keep your sidewalks and driveways safe. Residents are encouraged to bring their own container and fill it up with sand to use on their sidewalks and driveways. The winter sandbox can be found at the following locations
