Leslie M. Hammond, first elected as an Alderman in 1947, was a member of Council continuously until elected to the Office of Mayor from 1954 to 1956. Born in Saskatoon, he came to Regina in 1935 and worked as an accountant for Simpsons Sears. A past president of Regina Jaycees, he gave that organization credit for his public affairs training. Mr. Hammond served as a Director and Finance Committee Chairman for the Victorian Order of Nurses, and was President of the Regina Old-timers Association.
