Characteristics

Height and Spread Caraganas can quickly grow up to 4 metres in height and may have a crown width of 3.5 metres.

Preferred growing conditions Prefers full sun sites. Tolerates growing conditions such as alkaline soil, drought periods and extreme cold. Does not grow well in very wet or very dry, sandy soils.

Form Caraganas are oval shaped shrubs with sparse branches.

Flower/seeds Small, yellow, pea-like flowers turn into pods that ‘pop’ open when ripe. Seeds are brown inside the pod.

Leaf Pairs of tiny light-green leaflets form a leaf that is 2 to 7 cm in length.

Bark/wood Bark is olive green in colour.

Berries Not applicable

Pruning Prune to keep shape.

Problems (Disease/Insects)

Stem decay, septoria leaf spot, branch cankers, and blister beetles.
