Height and Spread False Indigo can grow up to 3.5 metres in height and may have a crown width of 2 to 3 metres.

Preferred growing conditions Likes very moist soil with full sun or light shade. Does not tolerate drought.

Form False Indigo shrubs have most of their leaves appearing on their upper branches.

Flower/seeds Bluish-purple flowers cluster in spikes about 15 cm long. These turn into light green seed pods that turn dark brown as they mature.

Leaf False Indigo leaves are made up of 13 to 33 ‘leaflets’. Each leaflet is 2 to 3 cm in length and about half a centimetre in width. It is dark green in summer and turns to yellow in the fall.

Bark/wood Bark is brownish-grey.
