Sod Your Lawn

Purchase good quality sod. It should be:

  • Dense
  • Weed-free
  • Approximately 2 cm thick to ensure fast rooting

Water the soil 1 or 2 days before you sod so the soil is moist but not muddy.

Since sod dries out quickly, have the sod delivered on a cool day if possible and store it the shade. Once it arrives, you should lay out your sod immediately. If you do not lay out your sod within a day or 2, it will likely die. To lay out your sod:

  1. follow a brick-work pattern so that the ends are staggered and the 4 corners never meet
  2. butt the edges of the sod tightly together
  3. ensure the sod has good contact with the soil

Thoroughly water once the sod is laid, so that water penetrates though the sod and into the soil.

Regularly water your new lawn, allowing the soil to dry slightly in between.
