North Central Drainage Project
The City of Regina is investing $15 million in the North Central Drainage Project which will replace and upgrade the storm sewer system to help prevent ponding and flooding during large storms.
“North Central Regina has been identified as an area in our community that requires storm water upgrades to reduce the risk of basement and street flooding,” said Mayor Michael Fougere. “This major drainage project will benefit over 450 homes within the neighbourhood.”
This project will reduce ponding impacts along Athol St and along 2nd Ave, and surface restorations will reduce the amount of potholes to ensure rainwater is able to flow to the drains and catch basins.
This is a three-year project occurring from 2020 to 2022, pending weather or unforeseen circumstances, that will include work on approximately 24 blocks within the area. A third construction season has been added due to impacts related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The health and safety of our employees, crews and community are top priority for the City of Regina. We are working closely with contractors and crews to ensure pandemic protocols are in place so work can be carried out in a safe and timely fashion.
The City is investing $79.5 million for transportation, water, wastewater and drainage projects this year, providing an important boost to the economy and helping to create jobs as our community deals with the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
