Winnipeg Street Overpass Project
The second and final year of the Winnipeg Street Overpass Project starts this week to replace the current structure and improve the roadway network in the area. This construction season will see a new overpass being built directly west of the current one and extensive modifications to the existing interchange to improve traffic flow, pedestrian connectivity and safety. The existing bridge will be deconstructed later this summer.
Starting Wednesday, March 23, speed on Ring Road will be reduced to 60 km per hour in both directions near the overpass while it becomes an active construction site. This will remain in effect until the end of October, weather permitting.
Various traffic restrictions, such as speed and lane width reductions, will occur during different phases of the project. Some aspects of the work will require short-term, overnight or weekend road closures. The City will advise residents of any traffic restrictions or closures as the work progresses.
Please plan for delays and watch for detours in this area.
Other improvements this season include the installation of new traffic signals, street lighting, extra turning lanes, enhanced landscaping and upgraded drainage with the inclusion of three storm ponds. In addition, a multi-use pathway will be installed between 7th Ave and Mount Pleasant.
