What is a Sport or Fitness Instructor?
Sport and fitness instructors are contracted by the City of Regina to lead inclusive recreation programs at City facilities. Instructors use their sport, fitness or adapted recreation experience to help participants of all ages and abilities learn new skills, stay active, build confidence and enjoy positive recreation experiences.
This opportunity offers flexible hours based on program needs, instructor availability and seasonal schedules. It is also a rewarding way to share your skills, support community wellness and make a positive difference in the lives of participants.

Group Fitness Instructor

Certified Personal Trainer
Are you passionate about supporting clients in achieving their health and fitness goals? The City of Regina is looking for contracted Certified Personal Trainers (CPT) to provide one-on-one or group coaching.

LiveWell Instructor
Certified Personal Trainers (CPT) are needed for the City of Regina’s LiveWell program, a registered group fitness program for people managing health concerns or wanting to improve their overall health.
The CPT will guide participants through an exercise program based on the participants’ abilities and goals as they exercise in a supportive group setting while working to improve strength, endurance, mobility and confidence.

Adapted recreation programs are changed or designed specifically to be more accessible to people with disabilities and will continue to be adapted based on individual needs. Adaptations might include changes to equipment, content, support, technology and/or environment.

What Qualifications Do I Need?
The City of Regina often partners with the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA) to offer some of the certification programs listed below. Check the Leisure Guide for current offerings.
Fitness:
Group Fitness Instructors:
- Certification from the Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association (SPRA):
- Exercise Theory plus at least one of the following:
- Group Exercise Fundamentals and Specialty
- Aquatic Exercise
- Exercise for Older Adults

- Exercise Theory plus at least one of the following:
- The City of Regina accepts other equivalent Group Fitness Instructor certifications. Please contact Instructors@regina.ca to verify.
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR (Level A or C). Certification through Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Lifesaving Society is preferred.
Other skills:
- Training and experience working with participants of all ages and abilities.
- The ability to lead and adapt programs for inclusive populations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Certified Personal Trainers:
- Certification from a recognized organization such as NASM, Canfitpro, CSEP or equivalent.
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR (Level A or C). Certification through Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Lifesaving Society is preferred.
- Specialized certifications such as pre- and post-natal training are an asset
Other skills:
- Training and experience working with participants of all ages and abilities.
- The ability to lead and adapt programs for inclusive populations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
LiveWell Instructors:
- Certified Personal Trainer, CSEP-CEP (Certified Exercise Physiologists) is an asset
- Degree in Kinesiology or enrolled in a Kinesiology program preferred
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR (Level A or C). Certification through Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Lifesaving Society is preferred.
Other skills:
- Training and experience working with participants of all ages and abilities.
- The ability to lead and adapt programs for inclusive populations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills
Sport Instructors:
- Relevant training, experience or certification in their area of instruction.
- National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is considered an asset.
- Current Intermediate/Standard First Aid and CPR (Level A or C) is required. Certification through Canadian Red Cross, St. John Ambulance or Lifesaving Society is preferred.
Other skills:
- Knowledge of sport-specific rules and fundamentals.
- Experience coaching or instructing individuals or groups.
- Training and experience working with participants of all ages and abilities.
- The ability to lead and adapt programs for inclusive populations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
Adapted Fitness and Recreation Instructor:
Adapted recreation instructors have specialized training and qualifications such as:
- Knowledge of inclusive and adaptive programming.
- Certification in adaptive sport, therapeutic recreation or specialized fitness.
- Neurological or chronic condition management experience.
