City Launches 2026 Gopher Control Program
The City of Regina is launching its 2026 Gopher Control Program to reduce damage caused by
gopher holes in outdoor spaces across the city.
“Gophers cause damage to our parks that is expensive to repair and that can make our outdoor
space less enjoyable for residents,” said Russell Eirich, Director of Open Space Services. “This
program helps to protect the green areas where residents play and relax every day."
As treatment begins, residents will see yellow warning signs posted in affected areas. These
signs indicate where crews are working and where gopher control treatment has occurred.
Residents are asked to avoid these marked locations and keep children and pets away while
treatment is underway. Pet owners should keep dogs leashed near these areas, as small holes
and mounds can be difficult to see and may pose a safety hazard.
This year, 42 locations will be treated. Sites will be monitored daily for several weeks following
treatment and signs will remain in place until the poison is no longer present and gopher activity
is under control.
Crews will apply Rozol RTU, a product approved for use by Health Canada, in selected rough
turf areas such as storm channels, roadways and railway buffer zones. The poison will not be
used in athletic fields or park spaces.
Spring is the most effective time to manage gophers as activity increases after winter. Early
treatment in rough turf areas helps prevent gopher populations from spreading into maintained
turf and sport fields later in the summer.
The program begins this week and will continue over the coming weeks. Residents can find
more information, including treated locations at Regina.ca/Pests.
