Water Meter Upgrade Project Moves into Ward 4
The City of Regina's Water Meter Upgrade Project is gaining momentum as it moves into Ward 4. To date, the project has successfully upgraded more than over 10,000 meters in Wards 5, 6, and 7.
The City is proactively addressing the aging water meter infrastructure as most of the current meters near the end of their lifecycle. This presents a unique opportunity to introduce a more efficient and advanced meter reading system that will enhance the service experience for Regina's utility customers.
With the project progressing as planned, Neptune Technology Group, the contracted company, is now starting in Ward 4. Customers in Ward 4 will receive a letter from the City, introducing the project followed by a detailed brochure explaining how to schedule a meter upgrade appointment. The brochure will be mailed in batches over the next two to three months.
To further enhance the utility customer experience, a new online service will be introduced later this year. This convenient system will allow customers to access account information, view and understand their household water usage, receive timely water meter reads, and benefit from improved customer support. Furthermore, electronic notifications about planned water outages and consumption alerts for high water usage will empower residents to save water and money.
The Water Meter Upgrade Project is making significant environmental contributions by eliminating the need for meter reading vehicles that emit carbon dioxide (CO2) during drive-by meter reads. The new system is expected to reduce community CO2 emissions by an estimated 10 tonnes per year.
