Changes to Regina’s Curbside Recycling Program Begin July 1
Starting July 1, 2025, items accepted in the blue cart are changing, as recycling processing responsibilities shift from the City of Regina to SK Recycles. While curbside pickup will continue without interruption, the sorting and processing of recyclables will now be managed by SK Recycles.
“Our partnership with SK Recycles marks a significant milestone in our recycling journey. By combining the City’s reliable curbside collection with SK Recycles' expert sorting and processing, we enhance our recycling system while reducing costs for residents,” said Carolyn Kalim, Director of Water, Waste and Environment with the City of Regina. “Expanding the range of materials accepted in the blue cart will ultimately help reduce contamination rates. Together, we’re making recycling cleaner, easier and more efficient for all residents.”
“We’re proud to partner with the City of Regina to advance environmental outcomes for household packaging and paper recycling,” said Kelly Goyer, Director of Field Services at SK Recycles. “By working together, we’re expanding opportunities for recycling and making recycling easier and more consistent across the province so, together with residents, we can recycle more and waste less.”
Residents can help reduce contamination by ensuring the following items are properly sorted:
Newly accepted in the blue cart:
- Coffee cups (recycle lid, cup and sleeve separately)
- Ice cream cartons and frozen dessert boxes
- Plastic dental floss containers
- Plastic tape dispensers
- Empty single use coffee pods
Not accepted in the blue cart:
- Glass containers and jars (accepted at SARCAN)
- Foam packaging and flexible plastics such as chip bags, plastic wrap and frozen vegetable bags (accepted at SARCAN)
- Green Nespresso pod recycling bags
Through proper sorting, residents can help keep the program running smoothly, efficiently and avoid costs incurred as a result of contamination.
