City of Regina Announces “Finding Middle Ground” Design Competition
The City of Regina is inviting participants to submit designs for the “Finding Middle Ground” Design Competition, which is being hosted by the City for the first time as part of the federal Housing Accelerator Fund commitments.
Designers, architects and the creative public have until November 7, 2025 to submit designs for innovative housing. The designs must focus on missing middle housing and multi-unit dwellings that encourage gentle density in established neighbourhoods. Missing middle housing refers to multi-unit properties that are larger than single family homes and smaller than high rise apartment buildings.
“Regina is at a pivotal moment in its growth, and the Housing Accelerator Fund gives us the momentum to reimagine how we live together,” says Mayor Chad Bachynski. “The Finding Middle Ground Design Competition is more than a call for creativity – it’s an invitation to shape the future of our city. With our rich prairie heritage and a community eager for smart, sustainable solutions, Regina is ripe for innovative housing designs that reflect both our values and our vision.”
A jury of established Canadian architects will judge entries based on creativity, aesthetics, affordability, accessibility and sustainability. Winners will be announced on November 27, 2025. Top submissions will receive monetary prizes provided by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).
