Construction Season Ends with the Opening of the Revitalized Dewdney Avenue
The 2025 construction season has officially concluded with an investment of $244 million. The City of Regina (City) completed a number of critical infrastructure projects this year, including the revitalization of Dewdney Avenue from Albert St to Broad St making it a destination for residents.
"Project teams and contractors worked closely together to optimize delivery through collaboration, allowing timely completion of projects,” said Kurtis Doney, Deputy City Manager of City Operations. "The outcomes of this work will enhance the lives of Regina residents."
Major projects included the revitalization of Dewdney Avenue, which not only replaced aging underground infrastructure, but transformed Dewdney Avenue into a more livable area with a new road, wider sidewalks and lighting upgrades. This season also saw the completion of the Water Network Expansion Project, which will support Regina’s water needs as the city continues to grow. The City continues to focus on renewal of infrastructure with key priorities being planned over several years. The 2025 construction season also included the following investments:
- Improved 27 km of roads as part of the Residential Road and Street Infrastructure Renewal Programs.
- Upgraded 10.8 km of sidewalks.
- Removed 291 City-owned lead service connections.
- Replaced 5.4km of water mains.
- Relined 5.8 km of water mains and 960 metres of large diameter wastewater trunks.
The City also introduced the online Construction Map, an interactive tool designed to help residents stay informed about ongoing and upcoming projects in their neighbourhoods. Updated daily, the map has become a valuable resource for tracking construction progress and planning travel routes. Since its launch in May 2025, the site has received over 13,000 views.
The City extends its appreciation to residents for their patience and understanding throughout the construction season. While road closures and detours can be disruptive, they are essential to ensuring the long-term safety, reliability, and sustainability of Regina’s infrastructure.
