Green Cart Program Begins and Brown Cart Collection Day Change
The Food and Yard Waste Program is here! Green cart collection begins the week of September 4. The City will be using the Food & Yard Waste Pilot site at the landfill as a short-term composting location until a longer-term solution is established.
Brown cart collection days are also changing on September 4 to accommodate the new food and yard waste service. To find your new brown cart collection day, residents can search their address on Regina.ca/waste or the Regina Waste App. Both the waste website and waste app offer a number of options to help remind residents of their collection days for garbage, recycling and compost.
Garbage cart collection will now take place on a bi-weekly basis year-round in order to accommodate the new compost service and reflect the expected reduction in household garbage by up to 50 percent.
Green cart delivery is 95 per cent complete and anticipated to be completed by September 1.
The City of Regina reminds residents what to do this week and next:
- Bring your kitchen catcher inside and review the materials within it;
- Start using your cart for food and yard waste;
- Check your green, brown and blue cart collection schedules; and
- Put your carts out on the scheduled collection days.
All food scraps (including meat, bones, dairy and greases), yard waste, greasy pizza boxes, napkins and tissues can go into the green cart. Residents can check the Waste Wizard to help sort items they are not sure about.
