The City Resumes Construction on Its Southwest Sewer Upgrade Project
The City has begun the second year of its multiyear project to reduce the risk of sewer backups and support Regina’s growth by expanding the City’s wastewater network. This project will help prevent sewer backups in Southwest Regina and reduce wastewater bypass events during rainfalls.
Work this year falls under Contract 2, which includes the installation of the large diameter pipe from A.E. Wilson Park, starting near Wascana Creek and continuing south through Kent Street, crossing Dewdney Avenue and into the Government of Canada Lands. To support this work, there will be road restrictions along Kent Street from the cul-de-sac south of AE Wilson Park to Dewdney Avenue.
The City has also coordinated other underground and surface upgrades around Kent Street to help avoid future disruptive construction. The majority of the additional work is expected to be completed in 2025, with landscaping and surface restoration work being finished in 2026. It includes installing new pipes to replace watermains, replacing storm drains, relocating SaskPower infrastructure and upgrading the streetscape with new pavement, curbs and gutters.
The first phase of Contract 2 construction has already begun. Phase 1 is expected to be completed by Friday. It includes parking lane restrictions north of 8th Avenue on Kent Street. Beginning on Friday, June 20, Kent Street will be closed from the 8th Avenue intersection to the park entrance. This closure will last until August. Residents driving eastbound will need to take Dewdney Avenue to access roads west of Kent Street during this closure. Please watch for signs and use caution.
Residents are encouraged to visit Regina.ca/southwest for the latest information about this project, including future restrictions on Kent Street when they become available.
