Light the Lights Downtown

Light the Lights Digitals 2026_CityConnect Banner

Join us at Light the Lights Downtown on Thursday, November 19 from 5 to 8 p.m.

Presented in partnership by the City of Regina and Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID), this new holiday celebration brings together the City’s long- standing Light the Lights tradition and RDBID’s Holiday Tree Lighting for one festive evening in the heart of downtown Regina.

The evening will feature two community lighting celebrations:

  • Victoria Park Tree Lighting Ceremony – 6 p.m.
  • City Hall Lighting Ceremony – 6:30 p.m.

Together, these special moments will officially kick off the holiday season and illuminate downtown Regina for both residents and visitors to enjoy.

Where to join in the fun

Throughout the evening, residents are invited to explore event hubs across downtown, including City Hall, Victoria Park, Cornwall Centre, Regina Public Library, Globe Theatre and the Regina Farmers’ Market, each offering unique holiday experiences, activities and entertainment.

This free, family-friendly event will feature:

  • Visits with Santa Claus and the Grinch
  • Live performances from local entertainers
  • Holiday Regina Farmers' Market in the City Hall cafeteria
  • Seasonal activities and programming at participating downtown locations
  • Virtual colouring contest
  • Complimentary horse-drawn wagon rides connecting event hubs
  • Free hot chocolate
  • And more holiday fun for all ages!

Additional programming details will be announced closer to the event. Check back regularly for a full schedule of activities, event hub information and an event map.

Children ages 12 and under are invited to participate in our virtual colouring contest in the spirit of the winter season.

This year’s colouring page was created by Regina-based Métis artist, Phyllis Poitras-Jarrett. Phyllis’ art celebrates traditional Indigenous worldview and harmony with all sources of life. Animals, plants, insects, land, water and air hold equal value on Earth. Phyllis writes, “We must be mindful of our daily footprints by respecting and caring for Mother Earth… In my art the spirit animals symbolize the qualities and values that every person has within themselves. Embracing these values will create conditions for our lights to shine bright on our life journeys.”

Phyllis’s print of the rabbit titled "Playful and Mischievous" beautifully captures the vital importance of bringing joy and laughter into our daily lives. Her work serves as a gentle reminder that our meaningful connections and unique, shared stories are what truly enrich our journeys and bring happiness to our lives.

To learn more about Phyllis Poitras-Jarrett and her art, see her website at: MetisSpiritArt.ca/.

Fill out the information at the bottom of the page and submit it to win one of two City of Regina prize baskets!

Entry deadline: December 11, 2026
Draw date: December 14, 2026

Two ways to enter the contest:

About the event

For many years, the City of Regina’s Light the Lights celebration and RDBID’s Holiday Tree Lighting have marked the beginning of the holiday season. In 2026, Regina City Council approved combining these two events to create Light the Lights Downtown. By bringing the celebrations together, the event offers a larger, more coordinated experience that connects residents to multiple downtown destinations, expands programming opportunities and creates a more vibrant holiday experience in City Centre.
