Residents have told us that they want additional for-hire transportation options in Regina, particularly at peak times. The City has developed its regulatory framework for rideshare companies to operate in Regina taking into account public and industry feedback. This regulatory framework considers the recently released provincial regulations and industry best practices. It includes:
- That rideshare companies be licensed by the City of Regina
- Trips are pre-booked using the rideshare company’s app
- Fares are provided to and accepted by the passenger in advance of the trip and an electronic receipt issued upon completion of the trip
- Payment is made through the app. Rideshare companies and its affiliated drivers are prohibited from accepting cash
City Council approved the proposed licensing scheme for rideshare at the Council meeting on January 28, 2019. A proposed Bylaw will be presented to Council in February. The Bylaw will be effective upon Council approval, at which time rideshare companies can begin the process of applying for a licence to operate in Regina.
