The Office of the City Clerk keeps the latest version of each bylaw on file and will provide a hard copy upon request. There may be a cost associated with a request to print a bylaw.
Animal Bylaw
The Animal Bylaw was established to regulate pets in our city. It promotes the safety, health and welfare of people, animals and property in the city of Regina and ensures the humane treatment of animals.
Overview
Cat owners must ensure their cat(s):
- Have and wear a cat licence.
- Are secured on their property and are not allowed to be a nuisance to the neighbourhood.
- Do not disturb the peace by howling or crying.
- Do not damage other’s property.
- Do not scatter garbage.
- Do not chase, threaten, or attack a person or an animal.
Dog owners must ensure their dog(s):
- Have and wear a dog licence.
- Remain on a leash at all times, unless posted signs indicate otherwise.
- Are in their site and respond to sight or sound commands.
- Are not left unattended while tethered.
- Do not bite or injure anyone.
- Do not disturb the peace by barking.
- Do not damage other’s property.
- Do not scatter garbage.
- Do not chase, threaten, or attack a person or an animal.
- Remove defecations from public and their own property immediately.
Livestock restrictions are in place within the city limits. Consult the bylaw for all relevant requirements.
Consequences
There are fines in place for individuals and/or corporations who do not comply to the regulations within the bylaw. Fines can reach up to $25,000.
