Event & Tour Booking for Preschool-Age Children

Regina Fire & Protective Services appreciates your willingness to teach fire safety to your preschool-age students. Historically in Regina, a large number of our fires are caused by children playing with matches or lighters.  It has consistently been one of our leading causes of fires - totalling 90 fires in the past ten years. Sharing this life-saving information with children has been the key to lowering these types of fires and saving lives.

Our pre-school classroom visits / station tours are developmentally appropriate early childhood education programs for three and four-year-old children. As a pre-requisite to booking a classroom visit or station tour, the children MUST complete the lessons contained in the Preschool Learn Not to Burn Program and the Regina Fire Learn Not to Burn Program in advance. This material is pertinent to the visit and will prepare the children for the information the firefighters will be reinstating to them. We require two weeks advance notice for all bookings.

Fire Station Tours

Families, groups and classes are invited to visit their local fire station. Visitors can participate in interactive tours designed to teach participants about firefighting and home fire safety. Visitors will also be given the opportunity to explore a fire truck and learn about the various emergency fire, medical rescue and other equipment used by firefighters. Each tour lasts between 30 and 45 minutes.

Events & Activities

We offer a number of public education events, classroom visits, activities, and presentations.

Preschool Visits

Upon completion of the Preschool Learn Not To Burn Program and the Regina Fire Learn Not to Burn Program, preschool teachers can book a classroom visit by firefighters. During their visit, the firefighters will reinforce the fire safety lessons taught ahead of time, show the students their protective gear, and lead the group in a fire drill out to the fire truck. Regina Fire & Protective Services will provide teachers with a copy of the Preschool Learn Not To Burn Program at no cost.

Fire Survival Skills Activity

Preschool to Grade 3

Firefighters conduct a fire escape activity once every three years at each of Regina’s elementary schools. Firefighters will set up interactive modules in the school gym designed to teach students what to do in the event of fire in their home. At the end of the activity, students will know the components of a family fire escape plan. Each session wraps up with a demonstration of firefighting gear and equipment.

Child and Youth Group Fire Safety Presentations

Upon request, members of Regina Fire & Protective Services will provide child and youth groups with fire safety presentations. Each presentation is approximately 30 to 45 minutes in length.

Adult Group Fire Safety Presentations

Upon request, members of Regina Fire & Protective Services will conduct fire safety presentations for adults groups. These presentations focus on fire prevention and fire escape planning.

Youth Firesetter Intervention Program

While curiosity about fires can be part of normal childhood experience, unsupervised firesetting or playing with matches and lighters is not. Regina Fire & Protective Services provides a structured assessment and intervention for children and guardians concerned about this dangerous behaviour through its Youth Firesetter Intervention Program.

Community Events

Regina Fire & Protective Services takes part in many community events to promote fire safety and fire escape planning. Public Open Houses are held at different fire stations annually. Watch for details.

To book a fire truck or firefighter at a community event, contact us at FAST@regina.ca.
