City and Community Celebrate Grand Opening of Lakeview Park
The City of Regina and the Lakeview Community Association are celebrating the grand opening of the renewed Lakeview Park.
“This project reflects one of the City of Regina’s priorities – creating a healthier and more inclusive community,” said Diana Burton, Director of Recreation & Cultural Services. “It shows what is possible when residents, through their community associations, and the City work together. Lakeview Park is now a place where people of all ages can gather, be active and enjoy the outdoors year-round.”
The renewal of Lakeview Park is a successful large-scale community-led park project in Regina. For over eight years, the Lakeview Community Association led planning and fundraising, while the City provided support through project management, design expertise and infrastructure improvements.
"The renewal of Lakeview Park is a wonderful example of what can be done when a dedicated group of community volunteers, the generous support of neighbourhood donors and the active participation of the City administration combine to create a 21st century meeting place and recreation area for family and friends,” said Bob Hawkins, Chair, Lakeview Community Association. “The park has been reimagined with a new playground, a refurbished rink, a modern pump track, picnic tables and shade trees, all of which combine to create a welcoming place, accessible to all, for future generations of Lakeview residents.”
